His Dark Materials

Did anyone else watch the premiere of the new HBO adaptation? Interested in GD thoughts.

I didn't yet. Planning to this week, though.

I'll be watching it on catchup tonight. Can't wait!

I watched the first episode; I'm happy to watch another to see where they're going with this adaptation. The voices of the daemons don't sound like they do in my head, though.

I watched it last night. Really enjoyed it. My only real criticism is that they don't show enough daemons. Every person has one, but you don't get that impression in crowd scenes, even allowing for those that are small enough to hide in a jacket, or that may be flying above. Otherwise I thought it was well cast and stuck closely enough to the book to keep me happy.

I really enjoyed it, and hope the entire series is as good. And yeah, it is staying pretty close to the book.

Oh, I wish I had HBO! Perhaps there is another way to watch it?

Watched the first one and thought it was quite good. I also enjoyed the film version made of The Amber Spyglass back in 2007. The HBO version seems much grittier and more realistic so far.
