We (my 7 year old and I) finally finished reading this, a chapter a night is such a tedious way to read a book. This is excellent and better than the movie I think. There's less drama in Kansas, more adventures in the land of Oz, and more charming characters throughout. Love it and looking forward to the next ones.
This edition is lovely, the illustrations are imaginative and captivating, and the interactive cutouts were perfect for my 7 year old. ( )

Na minha opinião, o livro ainda não teve uma adaptação cinematográfica à altura, por mais que o filme de 1939 tenha se tornado um clássico. Eu, sinceramente, quando vi o filme há 15 anos, achei até bem bobo. O livro é uma graça. ( )

I've read war novels where less murder occurs than in this book. It is a dark, creepy story with a lot of social messages that I'm rather unsure of. For instance, I have no idea if Baum despised the existence of the military or was merely making fun of its infrastructure and arrogance.

One of the criticisms I've heard most of "The Wicked Years" quadrilogy is that it is "just too dark". Maguire wrote based off the musical AND the book series. And the book series is pretty darn dark.

Be warned. Here there be Tin Men. ( )
