I like this one better than the first book. I guess I've got used to the way Percy narrates the story by now. Would have liked it better if I'd read it in middle school or hadn't read another fantasy just before this one. Will probably pick this again later when I want something familiar. ( )

The sequel to Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief was a great novel! It had almost everything I expected of it: more action, more trouble for the main characters, relationships building, more magic and gods tricking our young Olympians and more creatures!

Percy and Annabeth go with Percy's new half brother Tyson to save Grover. The relationship between Percy and his half brother Tyson didn't seem forced. Percy had his ups and downs with accepting his new brother, and even questioned his Father's love for him because he had another son that wasn't with his mother. Percy's relationships with every character was built up at a lovely pace, and made these kids almost seem real. I really liked how Rick built these relationships and I hope he keeps doing so in the sequels.

I don't have much to complain about for this novel. I expected action and sticky situations and I got them. This novel rivaled the first for being the best, yet I still felt like it was missing something. It is a great novel that I recommend to readers who liked novels such as Harry Potter, who love action and adventure and like a good chuckle out of their reads. The novel isn't to serious, but at the same time has great themes of friendship, never giving up, and the trouble within a family.

I can't wait to read the next novel!

Four out of five stars! ( )

This book had more action and adventure than the first one, and less mystery. It was still a fun, fast read I just enjoyed trying to figure out what was going on in the first one more. The Sea of Monsters definitely upped the level of feels though. ( )

A shorter tale than the first of the series, Sea of Monsters delivers the same energy, pace and adventure as Lightning Thief. ( )

Quotations
Humans don't exist on the same level as the immortals. They can't even be hurt by our weapons. But you, Percy--you are part god, part human. You live in both worlds. You can be harmed by both, and you can effect both. That's what makes heroes so special. You carry the hopes of humanity into the realm of the eternal. Monsters never die. They are reborn from the chaos and barbarism that is always bubbling underneath civilization, the very stuff that makes Kronos stronger. They must be defeated again and again, kept at bay. Heroes embody that struggle. You fight the battles humanity must win, every generation, in order to stay human.

Book description
Percy Jackson's seventh-grade year has been surprisingly quiet. Not a single monster has set foot on his New York prep-school campus. But when an innocent game of dodgeball among Percy and his classmates turns into a death match against an ugly gang of cannibal giants, things get . . . well, ugly. And the unexpected arrival of Percy's friend Annabeth brings more bad news: the magical borders that protect Camp Half-Blood have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and unless a cure is found, the only safe haven for demigods will be destroyed.

In this fresh, funny, and hugely anticipated follow up to The Lightning Thief, Percy and his friends must journey into the Sea of Monsters to save their beloved camp. But first, Percy will discover a stunning new secret about his family -- one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon's son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.
